THERE IS NO SEPARATE APPLICATION PROCESS FOR PHD SCHOLARSHIPS. AS A CANDIDATE YOU SIMPLY APPLY TO YOUR PROGRAM(S) OF CHOICE AND IF YOU RECEIVE AN ADMISSION OFFER YOU WILL ALSO RECEIVE THE SCHOLARSHIP. There are a wide range of scholarship opportunities for graduate students at Koç University. According to the funding source they can be:
  • • Graduate Fellowship Program funded by Koç University
  • • Externally-funded Graduate Scholarships that are co-funded by both external sources (eg. EU, industry-supported projects, governments, foundations) and Koç University
According to the level of graduate program they are: MASTERS SCHOLARSHIPS Different scholarships are available for qualified students in all the Graduate Schools. These scholarships are awarded on academic merit and potential. There is no separate application process to be awarded these scholarships as they are offered alongside an unconditional admission offer from the relevant Graduate School. They may include:

  • • Free on campus dormitory accommodation or monthly housing allowance

PhD SCHOLARSHIPS Students who are given an offer of admission to a PhD program (both Turkish and international) receive the following support:

10 faculty positions in data science at the University of Exeter, UK

As part of an exciting major initiative, the University of Exeter is aiming to recruit 10 new posts in data science and related disciplines.  Successful applicants will join rapidly expanding research strengths in analytics and data science with opportunities to participate in multi-disciplinary collaborations across the university. 

These posts, from Lecturer (Assistant Professor) to Professor, will contribute to extending the research profile of data science at Exeter, particularly in areas related to machine learning, statistical science, data science, uncertainty quantification, high performance computing for data intensive science, databases and data management, text analytics, data visualisation and modelling.  We particularly welcome applications spanning more than one of these areas.

2 PhD Positions in Big Data Analytics, University of Copenhagen



Introduction 
1-2 PhD positions are available at the Department of Computer Science, University of Copenhagen (DIKU). The PhD student(s) should start between August 1st 2016 and January 1st, 2017.

The PhD students will be part of strong team in algorithms and machine learning at DIKU, working on theoretical computer science published in e.g. STOC, FOCS, SODA, NIPS, ICML, AISTATS and COLT, but also conducting experimental work in cooperation with industry partners. We have access to huge data and the experimental work is expected to have impact on at least millions of people.

The PhD student(s) and the team are part of the DAnish Center for Big Data Analytics and Innovation (DABAI).  DABAI involves researchers from University of Copenhagen, Technical University of Denmark and Aarhus University. The PhD student(s) will work with colleagues from all the involved universities but will be anchored at the Algorithm research group at University of Copenhagen.

Expectations
The PhD student(s) should - during the project - produce strong theory papers, experimental papers, some implementation, and cooperate with other researchers from different departments and universities, in addition to cooperation with industry partners.  That includes working on theory and implementation of algorithms for the domains in focus in the project. The primary industry partner/focus for the team at DIKU will be companies making software for education. Therefore, the cooperation with companies will e.g. focus on optimizing personalized learning and recommender systems for efficient decision support in educational learning.

Qualifications
Applicants should hold an MSc degree - from an internationally recognized University. The MSc thesis should be in an area relevant for the project, e.g., algorithms, machine learning, mathematics, or information retrieval. Candidates who do not yet have their MSc degree, but who are expecting to be able to enroll August 1st, 2016 or latest January 1st, 2017 should specify the expected date of graduation, confirmed by their main MSc supervisor.

Among the qualified candidates, criteria to be considered include, among others:

-Published research papers at highly recognized venues
-High grades in algorithms, mathematics, machine learning, and other relevant courses
-Recommendations from highly recognized researchers in algorithms and machine learning
-Previous experience in Big Data Analytics implementation,
-Excellent English skills, written and oral (if coming from non-English speaking countries, proof of passing English language tests and/or graduate education in English)
-Good communication and interpersonal skills

Applicants must document their successful MSc studies by a high-grade average. If the applicant’s MSc work has resulted in a publication (accepted or in draft) this is considered a strong advantage.

Procedures and shortlisting

After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Interview Committee. An expert assessment committee decides if the applicant is qualified or not. Selected applicants are notified of the composition of the committee and each applicant has the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that relates to the applicant himself/herself. The Head of Department, based on the recommendations of the assessment committee, will make the final selection of successful candidates.

Terms of salary and employment
Terms of appointment and payment are in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Federation of Professional Associations (AC). The appointment is for a period of 3 years and must lead to a dissertation.

Description of job and requirements

The successful candidate will work with Prof Alberto Paccanaro on different projects in the area of Systems Biology and Network Medicine -- please see http://www.paccanarolab.org/ for a description of the research carried out in the lab. Candidates should have a PhD degree in a relevant quantitative field (e.g. Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering), a strong background in machine learning and a keen interest in computational biology. Previous experience in the area of graphical models would be an asset for this position. 

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with members of the interdisciplinary Centre for Systems and Synthetic Biology (Computer Science and Biological Sciences) at Royal Holloway and collaborators at Imperial College, University of Tennessee and Yale University. The post is therefore ideal for someone with a computer science or maths background who is looking to move into computational biology.

The Centre for Health Informatics is seeking a research associate in health data science to drive innovation at the interface between biostatistics, machine learning, and software engineering. Working with clinical, IT and healthcare data experts, you will drive the modelling of health data using state-of-the-art methods from biostatistics and machine learning.
You will have previous relevant experience in academia or industry encompassing a strong mathematical element and significant statistical knowledge. You will be educated to PhD level in Statistics, Machine Learning, or related fields; have experience in the analysis of complex healthcare problems and datasets; and have significant statistical modelling and programming experience.  Candidates without a PhD will be considered if they have significant demonstrable research and/or industry experience and are in possession of a relevant higher degree.
Domain knowledge of statistical and machine learning analyses of health, biological or social datasets; epidemiological models and complex causal inference; and multi-level regression are highly sought.  Experience of training others in statistical analysis and machine learning are also desirable.
