The Computer Science department at FAST-National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, Karachi, invites applications from potential students to join its PhD. program. The department is a pioneer of Computer Science education in the country. It has well established faculty pursuing research in major areas of Computer Science.  PhD scholarships for distinguished graduate applicants who demonstrate high potential for conducting original research in the fields of  Computer Science.

 Eligibility:

• A degree in a relevant subject, earned from a recognized university after 17½ years of relevant education AND
• At least 70% marks (in the Annual system) or CGPA of at least 3.0 (on a scale of 4.0) AND
• Applicant must have earned Master degree with coursework and Thesis.

Financial Aid

Distinguished graduate applicants will be supported with Rs. 60,000 per month upto three years and 100 % Tuition reimbursement (for 03 years)

Short Project Description

Machine-intelligence is leaving the laboratory. The question of when an artificial intelligence agent/robot can trust a human is gaining a greater practical significance than ever before. This project will extend our work on EEG for human-machine teaming and trusted autonomous systems with novel real-time machine learning models to estimate a human’s trustworthiness level during the control of a swarm of robots. The project will use an augmented virtuality environment that streams a live swarm-robotics task inside a virtual environment operated by a human. You should have a degree in computer science, mathematics or electrical engineering, and an aptitude to innovate.

Who should apply?

You should have

• First Class Honours or equivalent in cognitive science, computer science, mathematics or electrical engineering;
• Strong mathematical and programming skills;
• Interest and/or experience in analysing Human Brain Data;
• An unbounded aptitude to innovate; and
• Ability to work in a team and strive for research excellence.

Postdoc Research Associate in Weill Cornell Medicine
The Division of Health Informatics in the Department of Healthcare Policy & Research at Weill Cornell Medical College is inviting applications for a post-doctoral researcher position.

Research areas:
Specific areas of research and development interests for the position include, but not limited to:

  • Electronic health records, biomedical ontologies and terminology standards

Eligibility
The successful applicant will have a Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D., or equivalent in biomedical informatics, computer science, health information technology, or a related field. Applicant will have a record of significant research accomplishments as evidenced by work experience and publications in top-tier journals and conferences in informatics and computer sciences. Strong working experience with mobile health, data analytics, biomedical ontologies or electronic health records, and programming with Java, Python, R, MATLAB and/or SAS is required. Additionally, working knowledge of big data technologies and tools (e.g., Apache Hadoop, Apache Spark) is highly desirable. Strong curriculum and experience with mobile apps development, database and web systems, and/or literature mining will be an added advantage. The successful candidate will also have a track record of interdisciplinary work, and excellent oral and written communication skills.

5-6 PhD Positions (materials science) Available in Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST), Korea

The Center of Multi-Dimensional Carbon Materials of Institute of Basic Science (IBS-CMCM), located in Ulsan National Institute of Science and Technology (UNIST) of Korea, is launching a theory research group led by Prof. Feng Ding (see http://www.researcherid.com/rid/D-5938-2011 for more information). 

Number of Scholarships:

The theory group now has 5-6 PhD student openings.

Study Area:

i. Multi-scale computational methods development for materials science, including global minimum and/or transition state searching, classical and semi-empirical potential energy surfaces, kinetic Monte Carlo algorithms, Phase Field Theory, etc.

ii. Application of machine learning in materials science, including the development of artificial neural network (ANN) potential and material prediction by machine leaning, etc.

iii. The mechanism nanomaterials’ synthesis at atomic level, including (i) the formation mechanism of fullerenes from vapor phases; (ii) the mechanisms of carbon nanotube (CNT) growth and the potential routes towards chirality selection during CNTs synthesis; (iii) the mechanism of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) growth of graphene and other 2D materials; (iv) the mechanism of diamond CVD growth, etc.

iv. The structural defects, mechanical, thermal, electronic properties of CNTs, graphene and 2D materials.

v. The computational study of surface science and chemical reactions in solution.

Requirements:

The PhD positions are open to those who are holding or will be awarded a Bachelor or Master Degree in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, etc.
