Description of job and requirements

The successful candidate will work with Prof Alberto Paccanaro on different projects in the area of Systems Biology and Network Medicine -- please see http://www.paccanarolab.org/ for a description of the research carried out in the lab. Candidates should have a PhD degree in a relevant quantitative field (e.g. Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering), a strong background in machine learning and a keen interest in computational biology. Previous experience in the area of graphical models would be an asset for this position. 

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with members of the interdisciplinary Centre for Systems and Synthetic Biology (Computer Science and Biological Sciences) at Royal Holloway and collaborators at Imperial College, University of Tennessee and Yale University. The post is therefore ideal for someone with a computer science or maths background who is looking to move into computational biology. 

Location of the position

This post is based in the Department of Computer Science in Egham, Surrey where the College is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London (see http://www.royalholloway.ac.uk/).

This is a full time post, available immediately, or as soon as possible thereafter for a fixed term period of 30 months.

The salary is in the range £33,789 to £39,902 per annum inclusive of London Allowance.

*REQUIREMENTS* 

     - An official Master’s degree in Computer Science, or related field. 
     - An excellent academic record (grades of B or higher). 
     - Advanced command of English (minimum C1 or equivalent). 
     - Interest in research and ability to work both independently and

     - Early Stage Researchers rule: Applicants shall be in the first 
four years (full-time equivalent research experience) of their research 
careers and not yet have been awarded a doctoral degree. 
     - Mobility rule: At the time of the relevant deadline for 
submission of proposals, researchers shall not have resided or carried 
out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain for more than 12 
months in the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date.

The Centre for Health Informatics is seeking a research associate in health data science to drive innovation at the interface between biostatistics, machine learning, and software engineering. Working with clinical, IT and healthcare data experts, you will drive the modelling of health data using state-of-the-art methods from biostatistics and machine learning.
You will have previous relevant experience in academia or industry encompassing a strong mathematical element and significant statistical knowledge. You will be educated to PhD level in Statistics, Machine Learning, or related fields; have experience in the analysis of complex healthcare problems and datasets; and have significant statistical modelling and programming experience.  Candidates without a PhD will be considered if they have significant demonstrable research and/or industry experience and are in possession of a relevant higher degree.
Domain knowledge of statistical and machine learning analyses of health, biological or social datasets; epidemiological models and complex causal inference; and multi-level regression are highly sought.  Experience of training others in statistical analysis and machine learning are also desirable.

This position is at the Coordination of Ecoinformatics of the National Commission for Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity of Mexico. The position requires good communication skills in Spanish. 

The National Commission for Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (CONABIO) is a permanent interdepartmental commission, created in 1992. The mission of CONABIO is to promote, coordinate, support and carry out activities aimed at increasing awareness of biodiversity and its conservation and sustainable use for the benefit of society. CONABIO was conceived as an applied research organization, sponsoring basic research that generates and compiles information regarding biodiversity, developing capacity in the area of biodiversity informatics, and to act as a publicly accessible source of information and knowledge. Key Functions 
We are looking to recruit 6-months interns. The qualified candidate will engage in 
developing and implementing the state-of-the-art technology of image/video processing 
and computer vision. Under the supervision of a former Telecom Paris Tech Ph D/Dr 
(Computer Vision / Deep Learning), he will be responsible for: 
1. Investigate the current or new algorithms of image/video processing and computer 
vision based on deep learning

3. Implement the algorithms in preferred programming language

5. Develop new models, new data structures and other necessary web-based programs
