PhD position in nutrition/clinical nutrition
One PhD position is available for 3-4 years at the Department of Nutrition, Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Oslo

Job Description
An important aim of the project is to use nutrigenomics approaches, in order to provide novel insight how dietary fat regulates gene expression and metabolic pathways related to CVD risk in humans and to identify early biomarkers related to the development of CVD. Experimentally, this will be achieved by integrating data from peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) whole genome gene expression profiles, plasma metabolome profiles, lipid profiles and circulating inflammatory markers from a well-designed dietary intervention study using biostatistics/bioinformatics tools.
The objective of a research fellowship is completion of research training to the level of a doctoral degree. Candidates must have completed higher education equivalent to a Norwegian master degree and be granted admission to the Faculty’s PhD program. The grade requirements is an average grade of no less than grad B on subjects at master’s level and on master thesis. Subjects on bachelor’s level should be no less than grade C. The fellowship period is 3 years devoted to research training or 4 years with a 25 % teaching commitment. The period devoted to research training may be reduced within the framework of pertaining regulations based on previously held research training positions. The research fellow is expected to complete the project within the set fellowship period. Qualifications:
  • Applicants must hold a master degree (equivalent to Norwegian master degrees) in nutrition/clinical nutrition/molecular nutrition or similar.
  • Applicant must be granted admission to the Faculty’s PhD program
  • We are looking for motivated individuals with the personal prerequisites to carry out the project
  • Interest for laboratory work and previous research experience/knowledge about whole genome transcriptome or metabolome analysis will be an advantage
  • Previous research experience with statistical tools is an advantage
  • Previous research experience/knowledge within the field of nutrition, intake of fat and risk of cardiovascular disease will be emphasized
  • An adequate level of English and Norwegian language skills is necessary. The language of tuition will normally be Norwegian
  • Excellent command of written and oral English
  • Good collaboration skills
  • Previous publications within the field of nutrition research will be emphasized
