Requirements

Thank you for your interest in King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). We suggest you carefully review the list of requirements below and prepare your application in advance of the deadline.

Application Requirements

KAUST requires a minimum TOEFL score of 79 on the IBT (Internet Based Test) or 6.0 on the IELTS (International English Language Testing System). The KAUST admissions code is 4107. Only official TOEFL or IELTS scores will be accepted. TOEFL or IELTS scores for tests administered by an educational institution for admission to that particular institution are not acceptable.
A TOEFL or IELTS score is not required if the applicant received a degree from an accredited institution in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand.
KAUST does not require the GRE exam for admission. However, we strongly encourage students to take the GRE general test. A high quantitative score on the GRE will enhance a student's application. Official test results should be sent directly from ETS. The KAUST admissions code is 4139. The average GRE quantitative score for admitted students is currently 774 out of 800.
Submit an official complete university Transcript/ Mark sheets/ Graduation Certificate/ Academic Record from every institution previously attended. A scan of the official transcript provided by the university in the native language must be uploaded into the online application along with the certified English translation. Your transcript must include the university grading scale for all documents submitted. If offered admission, an official final transcript must be sent to the Office of Admissions prior to arrival (during the onboarding process) in a sealed envelope to:

You must have three letters of recommendation submitted on your behalf. Letters of recommendation are important and should be written by professors or advisors under whom you have pursued research or taken courses in your major field of study. Recommendation letters should be submitted through the application directly from the recommender. Recommenders should provide details about how he/she knows your work, as well as comparative statements (e.g., top 1% of class, best in past five years, etc.), and insight into your research ability.

Financial Support

All admitted students receive the benefits of the KAUST Fellowship which supports students for the duration of their graduate studies. The benefits of the KAUST Fellowship include:

HEC Need Based Scholarships

INTRODUCTION:

Higher Education Commission (HEC) aims to elevate the socio-economic position of the needy & deserving students by providing access to quality education through needs-based scholarships. Government of Pakistan (GOP) has also duly acknowledged the financial constraints barring students from acquiring higher education and has thus earmarked substantial funds for the improvement of education sector.

According to the national income statistics(by GOP), 80 percent of the families in Pakistan cannot afford the expenses of sending even one boarder to a local public university. Pakistan finished last among a group of 40 countries ranked by the Percentage Share of Enrollment in Private Higher Education (A study by World Bank, 1994) , (Higher Education: The Lessons of Experience, 1994). On September 11, 2002, the GOP formed the Higher Education Commission (HEC) through a Cabinet Ordinance with a "mandate to transform institutions of higher education into world class seats of learning."

The Higher Education Commission has started 6000 Scholarships of financially disadvantaged students to study Agriculture and Business Administration Programs since 2004.


OBJECTIVES:

1. To provide an opportunity for talented students who are financially disadvantaged and are incapable of meeting higher education costs at 11 partner institutions /universities in the fields of business and agriculture.


2. To provide opportunities for academically qualified, yet financially needy, Pakistani students to continue university studies in selected partner universities of Pakistan in the fields of agriculture and business administration, especially from remote and rural areas of Pakistan (FATA, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Southern Punjab, Balochistan, and Northern Sindh).

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

1.     Financial assistance & scholarships are available for study at undergraduate & graduate level in all disciplines at the selected public sector Pakistani universities and degree awarding institutions.
2.     Students need to compete for securing admission at the participating institution as per admission policy of the institution and be enrolled in Undergraduate (4 Years) / Graduate (2 Years) programs.
3.     All those needy students who are already enrolled in the participating institutions are also eligible to apply.
4.     The eligibility of a candidate is linked to neediness of the candidate as determined & assessed by the Institutional Scholarship Award Committee keeping in view the financial background of the family of the applicant.
5.     The number of G&UG slots will be decided by the universities but weightage will be given to UG slots.
6.     Funding for G & UG slots will continue for full program and eventually the slots will be replaced by new students. In case of any drop out waiting list students will be replaced.
7.     Disciplines will be kept open. University will decide to include or exclude any discipline keeping in view its grant, program cost, and number of allocated slots etc.
8.     In case of Medicine, Pharm-D and other five year programs funding will be made for complete five years.
9.     Considering the allocated grant, the university may adjust the total number of scholarships to some extent in order to cover the tuition fee as per actual.
10. Every student will be paid Rs 6000 stipend per month for the complete program as well as the actual tuition fee.

The filled application should be returned to relevant Financial Aid Offices where the applicant intends to secure admission

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD PROCESS:

1. Data and supporting documents of the potential candidate are reviewed by Institutional Scholarship Award Committee (ISAC).

2. Institutional Scholarship Award Committee (ISAC) which includes members from the institution as well as external community, is headed by the Vice Chancellor of the participating institution who would ensure the impartiality and transparency of the process.

3. The ISAC recommends potential candidates to HEC Scholarship Management Committee (SMC).

4. The cases are presented to Scholarship Management Committee (SMC) that approves the cases after thorough review.

5. The committee includes top Executives of HEC, representatives from the participating institutions, eminent scholars.

6. After finalization of awardees’ list, the participating institutions will forward the funds to students.

HOW TO APPLY:

HEC looks forward to support needy students in sharing educational expenses. However please note that under this scholarships scheme, the funds are not transferred directly to students by HEC. The payment is made to needy students through participating Universities/Institutions. 

The deserving students can obtain complete Scholarship Application Form from the Financial Aid Office (FAO) at the participating University/Institution or can be downloaded.

The Scholarship Form will be submitted along with supporting documents to the same Financial Aid office (at university only) after completion. (HEC will not accept any application form directly)

Students need to get admission in any one of the approved disciplines at the participating Universities/Institutions as per their admission criteria.

Please note that this scholarship program also considers partial scholarship for already enrolled students.
SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS: 
The scope of the project includes 10,019 number of scholarships for the students who meet the eligibility criteria. Whereas uptill now 4967 scholarships have been awarded. Students who are seeking financial assistance are advised to find out availability of scholarships at their relevant university before applying.

Prime Minister’s Fee Reimbursement Scheme


Prime Minister’s Fee Reimbursement Scheme for Less Developed Areas (Selected Regions) 

Introduction 
Tuition Fee Payment Scheme was approved on 1st June, 2012 by the Cabinet Division for the Financial Year 2012-13.
For MA, MS, MPhil, and PhD students
Areas covered:
Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and FATA

Current scheme was announced in the Budget Speech for Financial Year 2013-14 by the Finance Minister; expanding the scope of the scheme to Interior Sindh and Southern Punjab.
Following areas were included by the Prime Minister.
AJK
Malakand, Kohistan, D.I.Khan Divisions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Attock, Khushab,Mianwali and Bhakkar Districts of Punjab

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Students with valid domicile/local certificates of below mentioned areas enrolled in Masters, MS/MPhil programs in the public sector university located in their respective division or next closest division (only in case of no public sector university in their respective district or division) are also eligible.

Further, the students with valid domicile/local certificates of below mentioned areas enrolled in PhD program in any Public Sector University of Pakistan are also eligible under the scheme.
Areas included in the scheme are : Balochistan, Gilgit Baltistan, AJK, FATA, Interior Sindh, South Punjab, Malakand, Kohistan , D.I. Khan, Tank, Buner, Swat, Shangla, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Chitral , Lakki Marwat, Batgram, Torghar/Kala Dhaka, Hangu, Kohat, Bannu, & Karak districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Attock, Khushab, Mianwali and Bhakkar of Punjab.

All onboard students are eligible w.e.f. from semesters starting after July 2013 for Master & MS/M.Phil and Ph.D. 
  
COVERAGE 

a) Actual Tuition Fee (of Masters , MS/MPhil and PhD programs)
b) On and Off Mandatory charges which includes  Registration Fee/Enrollment Fee, Admission fee (For new admissions only), Examination Fee, Library charges(non-refundable), Laboratory charges,  Research related academic activities only.

INELIGIBILITY 

a) Students who are enrolled on self-finance basis or part time basis are ineligible

b) Domicile holders of other regions not specified in ‘Table A’

c) If Study period exceeds approved duration, then the student expenditure will not be covered under the scheme

d) Availing any other scholarship under Provincial Government, Foreign donor or any other HEC Program (e.g. Indigenous Program etc.)

e) Any Bachelors or four years Bachelors Program will not be considered

HOW TO APPLY CLICK HERE (FOR MORE)

 a) During the start of every Financial year, HEC  will ask the Public sector universities (under the scheme) via letters and emails  to submit the currently enrolled student’s data  on a specific  format by the given deadline
b) Focal persons of the universities will gather the data  and will submit to HEC
c) HEC, office will scrutinize the data and look for any discrepancies and ineligible students
d) After verification of student’s data , final lists will be compiled and shared with the concerned universities .
e) Cheque will be issued in the name of universities and they will be responsible for the disbursement of cheques to shortlisted students.
f) Universities are required to provide the Fund utilization reports of cheque disbursement on a specified format.
g) No student is allowed to directly approach HEC office for the inclusion of names under the scheme. He/ She has to contact the focal persons of the universities for the inclusion of name in the list. (List of focal persons are uploaded on website
  
New Admissions

A candidate has to secure admission on merit in the area of their respective domicile and HEC identified universities. (list of identified universities is available at www.hec.gov.pk/frs)
Master/MS/M.Phil candidates can take admission only in the universities located in the territory of Balochistan, Gilgit/ Baltistan and FATA, Malakand, Kohistan and Dera Ismail Khan (KPK Universities) with respect to their domicile.
PhD candidates having domicile of Balochistan, Gilgit/ Baltistan, FATA Interior Sindh, Multan, Bahawalpur, D.G. Khan, Malakand, Kohistan and Dera Ismail Khan are allowed to secure admission in any public sector university throughout Pakistan.
  
Subsequent Payments

1) Subsequent Payments will require satisfactory progress report/result of students.

2) For continuation of free education, the students will maintain minimum Percentage/GPA which is necessary to retain his/her admission for the respective university.

3) During the period, the student must be a full time student and he/she will take full load of subjects/credits during each semester/term/year.
